Sanko updated the control panel as part of the renovation of the Subaru Telescope's vapor deposition system, owned by the Subaru Telescope of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ). |
The Subaru Telescope is located at the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii, in the United States. If the telescope's mirror is not regularly cleaned, its field of view will become dark. Therefore, the mirror must be regularly cleaned (renewed for a new reflective surface). Because the Subaru Telescope's primary mirror is extremely large, measuring 8.2 meters in diameter, a dedicated vapor deposition system is located at the summit of Mauna Kea. (A vapor deposition system is a device used to create a reflective surface on the mirror's surface.) |
